2008: The Year Of The Mind Change

I love Edge's question of the year so I'm linking it in all it's glory. Find one that sounds interesting, pull it up, there will be links to even more.

This year's question got me to start thinking how I'd changed my own mind. Some of the people quoted have mind changes that reverberate with some of the ones I've had, over religion and culture and politics and things like that.

I changed my mind with this blog in deciding not to focus on gender. Gender separation is a mindset employed by people who want to reduce interpersonal issues to a political class struggle (usually to declare women to be some kind of perma-aggrieved class who can never be happy until the theoretical revolution), and I no longer think that's the case. And in virtual reality, gender is perceived anyway. Some of those smack talking youths are girls, and some of those histrionic broads who fly off the handle at real or imagined slights are dudes. And as far as tales of bad behavior, I've heard some hair raising ones regarding both genders.

I changed my mind about WoW, coming up on my one year anniversary of playing it. This is a fascinating game. There is no sandbox, and I miss that, but there is a fascinating solo game that at the end morphs into a complicated team game, and that way it manages to please fans of both.

I haven't changed my mind about video games though. I still like them. I intend to continue playing them in 2008.

Happy New Year!!
